Greve in Chianti is at the heart of the Chianti Classico region, which produces wine enjoyed the world over. In medieval times, Greve's location mid-way between Florence and Siena resulted in its emergence as a center of commerce and culture. Today, Greve also serves as an ideal point of departure for visitors interested in exploring these two historic cities, as well as the many picturesque villages of Tuscany. Surrounded by unspoiled countryside, Greve is a busy provincial town. Its triangular central piazza is fronted on all sides by arcades which serve as an inviting framework for shops and cafes.

In the center of the piazza is a handsome statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano, the first European explorer to enter what is today New York Harbor. He was born in the nearby Verrazzano Castle which is maintained in all its antique splendor by the current owner, Luigi Cappellini. The Castle is the site of the Opening Reception for community leaders, program faculty, participants and supporters...always a memorable evening.

Weekends are left free for participants to visit nearby Florence and Siena, as well as the other neighboring cities and towns of Arezzo, Pisa, San Gimignano and Volterra. Information about group tours will be available.
