"Tuscany"

Limited-edition, numbered and signed etchings
Created specially for the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program
by Nissan Engel

In celebration of our Thirteenth Season in Greve, we are proud to present a very special work of art - an etching, entitled "Tuscany" by world-renowned artist, Nissan Engel. After visiting the program, Mr. Engel was inspired to create "Tuscany." It truly captures the ambience and warmth of Tuscany and the essence of the singers and their music! Nissan Engel, a long-time personal friend, has donated 100 limited-edition, numbered and signed etchings to be given as a token of our appreciation to supporters of the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program.

"When musical work inspires a visual artist to create a work in his own art form, the result can be a revelation. That is the case with Nissan Engel's paintings."
                                                Daniel Barenboim

NISSAN ENGEL, was born in Israël, lives and works in Paris. He began his career as a figurative painter and in the theater as a set and costume designer. Nissan was influenced early on by a broad range of work from conceptual art to the abstractions and "Pop" styling of the mid-1960's. Shortly thereafter, he discovered a special affinity for collage after working on a series of stained glass windows in New York and Maryland. After living in New York for several years, Mr. Engel returned to Paris and continued his experimentation with collage, incorporating other media into his works. The result, which would become the underlying style of his mature career, was an individualistic blending of a variety of media, with music emerging as a predominant theme.

An artist of international renown for the past forty years, Nissan has had numerous important exhibitions throughout the world. His works have been seen among others at the Muscarelle Museum of Art, Williamsburg, Virginia; "La Maison Francaise" at the French Embassy in Washington, DC; the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama; The Jewish Museum and Lincoln Center in New York City, and the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
